Sync or Swim

MICHAEL CULYBA (Editor) has been working in New York’s documentary field for over eight years. After receiving his MFA from Florida State University’s Film Conservatory, Michael moved to New York City and began working at Academy Award nominated director Jonathan Stack’s production company, Gabriel Films.

After leaving Gabriel Films, Michael went on to edit documentary programming for Vh1, MTV, TLC, The Outdoor Life Network, and The Fine Living Network.

In 2006, Michael co-edited the critically acclaimed documentary Shut Up & Sing directed by two-time Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple. Shut Up & Sing chronicles the hit country act The Dixie Chicks in the wake of their anti-George W. Bush statement. After premiering at The Toronto International Film Festival it has since garnered numerous awards and nominations, including being short-listed for an Oscar nomination. Most recently Michael edited Doubletime. Produced by Discovery Films (Grizzly Man), Doubletime documents two teams in preparation for the Double Dutch championship at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Doubletime made its world premiere at the 2007 South By Southwest Film Festival and its New York premiere at The Tribeca Film Festival.  It will soon air on the Discovery Channel.
